Money decisions deserve numbers you can trust and check. This is how we try to earn that.

What we hold ourselves to

  • Accuracy first. A result that is simple and wrong helps nobody.
  • Show the work. Formulas and assumptions are public, so you can check them.
  • Say what we don’t know. We name the limits of each tool, and we don’t claim precision we don’t have.
  • No invented facts. We don’t make up statistics, reviews, ratings, or credentials.

Who is responsible

Anil, the site’s creator and editor, is responsible for what’s published here. Anil is a software developer, not a licensed financial adviser, accountant, or tax professional. That’s why this site relies on tested code and published government sources, and why its results are educational estimates rather than personal advice. See the About page for more.

How numbers get checked

  1. Tested code. Calculations live in one tested library. Automated tests compare results to published amortization tables, IRS rate schedules, and formulas worked independently. Every calculator also runs against random inputs to catch impossible results.
  2. Computed examples. Dollar figures in worked examples and reference tables are generated by that same code when the site is built, so the words can’t disagree with the tool.
  3. Original sources. Tax brackets, limits, and rules are taken from the primary documents, such as IRS revenue procedures, rather than from other websites, and each page lists its sources.

Sources we rely on

We prefer government agencies and regulators, including the IRS, Social Security Administration, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Federal Reserve, Bureau of Labor Statistics, HUD, the Department of Education, and the Department of Veterans Affairs. When a figure is an estimate, a projection, or a rule of thumb, we say so.

How we use AI

We use AI tools to help draft and edit explanatory text and to help write and review code. They don’t replace the checks above: figures come from tested code and original sources, not from AI output, and content is reviewed before it’s published.

Reviews and corrections

Each calculator page shows when it was last reviewed. We revisit figures when agencies publish new numbers, typically each autumn for the coming tax year. If you find an error, tell us. We’ll check it and correct it promptly, and we’ll note any correction that materially changes a result.

Advertising and independence

Budget Folders earns money from ads served by Google. Advertisers have no say over our calculators or content, and we don’t accept payment to change a result, feature a product, or publish a recommendation. We don’t recommend specific lenders or investments.

Education, not advice

Our content is general and doesn’t consider your personal situation. Please read the disclaimer, and speak to a qualified professional before major decisions.
